« The age-old art of Bizen ceramics » exhibition

The exhibition of Bizen ceramics will provide an opportunity to discover the major contemporary artists of the City of Bizen, starting with those of the Living National Treasure, Jun Isezaki.

Bizen Japanese ceramics, bizen-yaki, have been created in Okayama Prefecture for over 1,000 years. Bizen was one of Japan’s six historic ceramic production centres.

Bizen-yaki are renowned for their non-glaze, high-temperature firing technique, which creates a unique texture and natural patterns, thanks in particular to the fallout of pinewood ash.

The exhibition of Bizen ceramics will provide an opportunity to discover the major contemporary artists of the City of Bizen, starting with those of the Living National Treasure, Jun Isezaki.
