Exhibition: « Formes et Métamorphoses », the ceramic creation of Picasso
In 1946, Picasso, on holiday in Golfe-Juan, met Suzanne and Georges Ramié, founders of the Madoura workshop, where he made a few pieces in clay and with whom he began a collaboration the following year...
Although he had already had some experience of ceramics, it was in Vallauris, a pottery town, that Picasso really discovered the different techniques and quickly learned to master the subtle work of clay and colours.
Picasso was not content with decorating forms but wanted to use all the artistic potential offered by the material. Estimated at between 3,500 and 4,000, Pablo Picasso’s ceramic works appear to be abundant and innovative: he appropriated, diverted and reinterpreted them by revisiting the history of this medium in the diversity of its origins.
